Saffron is famous for its antidepressant and anti anxiety effects, but recent researches showed that a saffron extract might also be helpful for sleep quality.
Methods: 28-day, 3-arm, parallel-group, double-blind, randomised controlled trial, 120 adults with unsatisfactory sleep received either a placebo, 14 mg, or 28 mg of a standardised saffron extract (affron®) 1 h before bed.
Results: Compared to the placebo, saffron supplementation was associated with greater improvements in sleep quality ratings and mood ratings after awakening, but there were no significant differences between two saffron doses (14 mg and 28 mg).
It’s a good start! Let’s wait for more researches with a longer duration.
